26th YEAR ANNIVERSARY! - August 9, 2015

By the GRACE of The Living GOD, Bema Outreach Ministries has arrived at its 26th year of sharing the GOSPEL of The Lord Jesus Christ in the history of this world! The ministry vision is yet being fulfilled and it continues by the will of God.

Ministerial Licensing! - November 11, 2011

On Saturday, November 12, 2011, because of his faithfulness in prison ministry, his blameless character, and his competence in the Word of God, Bema Outreach Ministries is recommending Brother Larry Miller for the receiving of ministerial credentialing and license through Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary. We are also recommending Brother Anthony McCaffity for ministerial credentialing and license on the basis of his ministerial experience and responsible deportment as the Facilitator of our monthly C.A.Y.A. Men's Breakfast Fellowship in Baltimore. This is historic in the life of Bema Outreach Ministries, and for this we bless our God and our Father in Heaven!

Bema Outreach Ministries 22nd Anniversary! - August 3, 2011

August 9, 2011 will commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the inception of Bema Outreach Ministries by the grace of the Living God! On Saturday, August 20th the ministry will host an anniversary fellowship to celebrate the faithfulness of God with friends and ministry family.

The Bema Table - June 7, 2010

On Saturday, June 26, 2010 Bema Outreach Ministries will inaugarate The Bema Table, a discounted monthly food distribution to the community from the Woodstream Church. We have partnered with Angel Food Ministries through the New Song Bible Fellowship in Bowie MD to be a blessing to families in these difficult economic times. To God be the glory for the great things He has done!

2010 Resurrection Fun & Fellowship Day! - April 8, 2010

We praise the Name of our Great God for His faithfulness to provide material resource, people resource, financial resource, and His Anointing Presence for our recent annual Resurrection Fun & Fellowship Day! By the grace of God, we hosted the children and families of inmates in a day of games and enjoyable contests, food, music, facepainting, prayer, and Christian fellowship that they will not soon forget. The host site was the Woodstream Church in Mitchellville, MD, which is our covering church in ministry. Pastor Bob Wingfield was on site to share words of encouragement as God was glorified on this beautiful day of community outreach.

Second Annual Resurrection Fun & Fellowship Day! - March 8, 2010

On Saturday, April 3, 2010, Bema Outreach Ministries will host its 2nd annual Fun & Fellowship Day for the children of incarcerated men. This event will be held at the Woodstream Church on the lower parking lot from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. The address is 9800 Lottsford Road, Mitchellville, MD 20721, and festivities will include a moonbounce, clowns, facepainting, food treats, music, an Easter egg hunt, and each child will receive an Easter basket. This promises to be a memorable day for the children and guardians who will bring them. God will be glorified as this evangelistic outreach takes place for the blessing of community.

Christmas From Daddy! - January 13, 2010

In our 3rd annual 2009 "Christmas From Daddy" project, Bema Outreach Ministries was blessed to minister the love of God to one hundred forty-four children of incarcerated men, sending $15 gift cards to each enclosed in a letter from their fathers. God blessed with donations totalling $3040 from caring supporters. To God be all glory!

Consecration Of My Grandson! - December 31, 2009

On Sunday, December 27, 2009 I had the blessed privilege of traveling to Greensboro NC to joyfully consecrate my newest grandson, Joell Ian Swanson in an official Christening service! The parents, Leon Swanson Jr. and his wife Chaka delighted to give their son back to God Who has given him.

25th Ministerial Anniversary! - September 30, 2009

This day marks the 25th year of my entry into the work of the Gospel ministry by the grace of God. My years have been fruitful as countless souls have been saved and many lives changed by the power of God. I rejoice in the Lord with my beautiful wife Alicia my partner in this eternal work, and I am still excited to follow as the Lord Jesus Christ leads me.

With Sorrow - September 11, 2009

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing on last night of Sister Malinda Saunders, one of our Day Breaker writers to the inmates at the Maryland State Prison Complex.

20th Year Ministry Anniversary!! - August 9, 2009

God has been faithful to sustain our vision and work of outreach evangelism for twenty years this date! We are yet committed to get the Gospel of Jesus Christ out to the unenlightened by any means necessary as we minister in the prisons, nursing homes, and in the churches. To Him be all praise!!

New Ministry In Operation! - August 8, 2009

This day was the beginning of Bema Outreach Ministries' "Burning Lights" which is a men's Bible study and a women's Bible study at the P G County Correctional Center. God continues to expand the vision as additional people join the work!

My Granddaughter Is Saved! - July 15, 2009

While at Christian Summer Camp last week my beautiful granddaughter Amber gave her heart to Jesus Christ!!! We rejoice with my daughter Gina and her wonderful husband Kevin and we celebrate them for being such diligent parents, teaching by example. God be praised!

Professional Counselor Certification! - July 14, 2009

Today I received my certification as a Clinical Temperment Counselor and licensing as a Professional Member Counselor from the National Christian Counselors Association in Sarasota, Florida. This is first level certification on my way to completion of my graduate studies for a Master of Pastoral Counseling degree. I bless God for His grace and empowerment that brought me to this day!

Alicia's Birthday!! - June 24, 2009

On this date forty-eight years ago, God called forth out of the womb a beautiful part of His creation into His purpose and inspired her parents to call her Alicia. As my greatly beloved Covenant partner and Bema Outreach Ministries Administrator, she is effectively fulfilling that call to purpose. On this her day of natural birth, I delight to celebrate this wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend to many.

A New Grandson!!! - June 23, 2009

This morning at 11:30 a.m. The Lord Our God gave Alicia and I the wonderful gift of a beautiful, healthy new 6 lb. 11 oz. grandson! Our hearts are in full with rejoicing with our son and his wife over the increase to our family and the extension to the posterity of our great family name. All praise to our magnificent God and Savior!!

"The Burning Lights" - May 7, 2009

Bema Outreach Ministries has officially launched its Men's and Women's prison ministries which will conduct weekly Bible studies at the Prince Georges County Correctional Center. This ministry outreach is based upon Luke 12:35 where Jesus instructs His disciples declaring "Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning". We will occupy until He comes again!

"The Day Breakers" - May 7, 2009

Bema Outreach Ministries has officially launched a correspondence ministry to incarcerated men called the "Day Breaker Ministry" for the purpose of encouraging these men in their faith, and answering any questions on their hearts. This ministry is based upon 2 Cor. 4:5-7, and 1 Thes. 5:5 where the servant of God is exhorted to be light in the darkness in which people live. A monthly card or letter will be written to all inmates desiring to participate. We will occupy until Jesus comes!

64th Birthday! - April 13, 2009

Today I awakened to the beginning of my 64th year in the earth realm by the grace and mercy of God, and God alone! I am blessed with a wonderful wife, four children, five grandchildren, six loving siblings, and some precious friends. I am blessed indeed!

My Children's Baptism! - March 29, 2009

My wife Alicia and I were wonderfully blessed to witness the Christian baptism of my 8 year-old grandson Tyler today. He was joined in baptism by his sister Amber, my daughter Gina (his mom), and my son-in-law Kevin as they were all rebaptized as a family. God be praised for ever more!

New Grandchild News!! - February 7, 2009

My son Leon II, called me from Greensboro NC to inform me that I am about to be a grandfather for the sixth time, and it is going to be a boy!! A Swanson name-keeper!! He gave me the honor of naming the child, and God gave me "Joell Ian Swanson". Joell means "Jehovah is the Lord", Ian means "God is gracious". Whenever his name is spoken, God will be glorified. Hallelujah!!!

Twenty-fourth Ministerial Anniversary! - September 30, 2008

This day marks the 24th year of Elder Swanson's commitment to the service of God in the work of spreading the life-changing Gospel. God be praised for His faithfulness in keeping Elder Swanson steadfast, unmovable, and abounding in the work of the Lord!

Oldest Grandaughter's Baptism - August 18, 2008

On Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 5:00 p.m., my oldest grandaughter, Ms. Amber Hayes, eleven years old, was consecrated to the Lord Jesus Christ by immersion through the sacrament of water baptism. The ritual was conducted by Pastors Joe and Ruth Varona in Warrenton, VA. God be praised forever more.

19th Year Ministry Anniversary of Bema Outreach Ministries, Inc. - August 9, 2008

Today marks the nineteenth anniversary of our ministry by the amazing grace and faithfulness of God our Father Whose we are and Whom we serve. Many thanks to all of you who have faithfully supported and prayed for the work of reconciliation the Lord has given us to make Him clear and visible. As we launch into our 20th year our goal to establish Bema Covenant Center for ex-offenders yet remains vibrant until our faith becomes substance for the glory of God. Jesus is Lord!!

New Grandchild!! - June 26, 2008

On May 15, 2008 at 5:34 a.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Lord graced my life once again with a beautiful little grandaughter who was named Morgan Melani Swanson, and man, what a happy granpappy I am!! On Saturday, June 21, 2008 I traveled with an entourage of family saints to North Carolina to do a consecration ritual to commit my grandaughter back to our good and gracious God who has created her in our family for His own purpose. Oh, magnify the Lord with me!!
